Classification Changes for the Food and Beverage Industry

The WCIRB’s regulatory filing takes effect on September 1, 2024, and includes the addition of new classifications for the food and beverage industry.

Starting on September 1, operations previously assignable to class code 9079 Restaurants or Taverns, must be reassigned to one of the following six new classifications:

  • 9058: Hotels, Motels or Short-Term Residential Housing – food or beverage employees
  • 9080: Restaurants – full service
  • 9081(1): Restaurants – N.O.C.
  • 9082: Caterers – not restaurants
  • 9083: Restaurants – fast food or fast casual
  • 9084: Bars or Taverns – not restaurants

To help determine the classification that best applies to your business, this helpful interactive tool from the WCIRB will guide you through a series of questions. Additional resources and detailed information about the changes are available on the WCIRB website.
