WCIRB Changes Restaurant and Tavern Classifications

On September 1, 2024, the WCIRB will implement changes to restaurant and tavern classifications and other regulations.

Class code 9079 Restaurants or Taverns must be reassigned to one of the following six new classifications:

  • 9058: Hotels, Motels or Short-Term Residential Housing – food or beverage employees
  • 9080: Restaurants – full service
  • 9081(1): Restaurants – O.C.
  • 9082: Caterers – not restaurants
  • 9083: Restaurants – fast food or fast casual
  • 9084: Bars or Taverns – not restaurants

The WCIRB has designed an interactive tool to help determine the correct classification. Please visit WCIRB for further information.

Those with policy effective dates on or before August 31, 2024, will continue to use the 9079 classification.  

Please note the regulatory filing will not impact rates and minimum premiums.
