Why choose us? It's simple. Because we care.
We care about your business, your employees and about doing our part to ensure California’s workforce stays safe and healthy.

NOT FOR PROFIT |
Making our communities better
We believe in making the places where we live and work, better. Focusing on a diverse workplace to match California’s diverse population is a priority. You can see it in our:
- Partnership with Kids’ Chance of California. We partner with Kids’ Chance to provide need-based educational scholarships to children of California workers who have been fatally or seriously injured on the job.
- Commitment to the fight against cancer. We’ve raised and donated hundreds of thousands of dollars through our partnership with the American Cancer Society (ACS). From events like the Fit2Be Cancer Free Step Challenge to working to improve the rate of early colorectal screening through the Adopt-a-Clinic program, our deep commitment to this cause is one close to our hearts.
- Focus on diversity and Inclusion. Our core value of respecting everyone can be seen in almost everything we do. From a rich company culture resulting from a diverse employee base to flexible work-from-home schedules, fair hiring practices and our nationally recognized Supplier Diversity Program, we strive to always do the right thing for our employees, customers and vendors.
Environmental awareness and sustainability
Our vision to serve California’s workforce is a long-term one, which means we need to also focus on caring for the environment by implementing sustainability measures that will ensure longevity. From our extensive solar installation on many of our facilities to helping to restore California forests recently hit by wildfires, we are always looking for opportunities to be good stewards of the communities in which we live and work.
Not for profit and self-funded
Because we are not for profit, we are able to focus on what’s really important. People. Your people and our people. As one of the few state agencies that doesn’t rely on taxpayer dollars, we are able to do things like:
- Provide COVID-19 relief funds to our policyholders. When COVID hit the workforce, we quickly sprang into action. In April 2020 we announced the Essential Business Support Fund, a $25 million fund to provide relief to California businesses to help with wage replacement assistance for workers who contracted or were exposed to COVID, help cover COVID-related medical costs, and assist essential businesses with the cost of implementing safety measures.
Thank you State Fund for providing me with the necessary grant funding I needed to help me safely reopen my business for my employees and customers.
- Bebe Lee, owner of Curves in Los Altos
- Pay dividends to policyholders. Effective investment management and improved claims outcomes has made it possible for us to share an overage of funds with our policyholders. Last year we were able to refund $54 million to thousands of California businesses.
We look forward to serving you and we’ll do everything we can to support your business and keep your workers safe.
