As Executive Vice President of Business Segment Operations, Paula Clarkson leads operations for Small Commercial and Middle Market Underwriting in addition to State Fund’s Specialty Accounts units. She joined State Fund in 2019 as a Senior Vice President, overseeing Specialty and Middle Market, and began serving on the Executive Committee in 2021.
Paula brings more than 25 years of experience in multiline underwriting and business development to her current role. She has a proven track record of building and leading teams to successfully deliver for their customers while achieving organizational goals.
Prior to joining State Fund, Paula served as an Associate Vice President for Commercial Lines Middle Market Underwriting at Nationwide, where she led the Western Region. Her responsibilities in that role included profit/loss management, business development, and talent management.
Paula earned her bachelor’s degree from Simpson College in Management with a minor in accounting. She maintains the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Construction Risk Insurance Specialist (CRIS), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and WCIRB CompEssentials designations.
