Work Permits

Generally, workers under 18 must apply for work permits at their school or school district office before beginning a new job. Work permits are not required for those who have graduated from high school or pass the high school equivalency exam. Employers are required to have the work permit on file and available for inspection by school and labor officials at all times. Some exceptions exist for youths working for their parents on a farm owned or controlled by their parents, delivering newspapers, baby sitting, and doing minor domestic work around a private home.
