June is National Safety Month

Every year, jobsite deaths and injuries take a tremendous toll on workers and their families. In addition to the price of human suffering, there is the cost of lost wages, productivity or property, and medical, administrative, and insurance expenses. Employers and their employees can help reduce these losses by making safety a priority. State Fund urges companies to adopt a comprehensive code of safety and health ethics, and institute programs to help reduce accident frequency and severity.

In an effort to raise public awareness of how to stay healthy and safe both on and off the job, the National Safety Council (NSC) designated June as “National Safety Month.” The Council is focusing each week on a specific safety topic and addressing its most troublesome problem areas. Their website www.nsc.org provides detailed information on each of the weeks’ activities, along with links to supporting websites offering safety and health information and solutions.

  • Week 1 (June 1-7) – Teen Driving
  • Week 2 (June 8-14) – Fall Prevention
  • Week 3 (June 15-21) – Overexertion
  • Week 4 (June 22-28) – Distracted Driving

As a supporter and participant in this worthwhile campaign, State Fund encourages companies to celebrate National Safety Month with efforts to reduce accident frequency and severity. We invite you to visit our Safety Meeting Topics section to find supporting material relating to each week’s safety topic, as well as a variety of loss control programs, hazard solutions, and safety tips.

State Fund hopes that all Californians will do their part to reduce the number of accidental deaths and injuries—not only for the month of June, but all year, every year.
