Doug Stewart joined State Fund in November 2007 as a consultant. Following the passage of SB 1145, he was appointed State Fund’s Chief Risk Officer. In that capacity Stewart serves on the executive committee and is responsible for several areas including Risk Management, Underwriting, Marketing, Ethics & Compliance, and Safety & Health. From October 2009 until August 2010, he served as Interim President and CEO.
Stewart brings more than 37 years of experience in the insurance industry having worked for both national carriers and public brokers. His insurance industry experience includes work in claims, underwriting, marketing and sales at both the field and executive levels. He has several years experience as an agent, broker and surplus lines broker. Doug also was active with the Pacific Northwest arm of the Western Association of Insurance Brokers (WAIB).
Within his profession he holds the designations of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Accredited Adviser in Insurance (AAI). Stewart received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Santa Clara University.As Chief Risk Officer, Stewart serves on the executive committee and is responsible for developing a comprehensive and integrated approach for risk management across State Fund’s operations. He is also accountable for identifying and managing multiple cross-enterprise risks; establishing an aggregate risk profile; enhancing risk response decisions and decreasing operational loss.
