Tractor Safety Training Wins Kudos from Agriculture Community
Agriculture depends heavily on tractors, especially during spring planting and the fall harvest. Since a tractor is only as good as its operator, skilled drivers are essential from the standpoint of both safety and production.
Earlier this year, Loss Control experts from Bakersfield and Fresno participated in ‘Train the Trainer’ tractor safety classes in Bakersfield, Madera, Reedley, and Huron. Through the use of video, written tests, hands-on participation and a driving course, Brad Aragon, Trino Maciel, Brandon Hart, and Paul Williams demonstrated the importance of detailed documentation, proper maintenance, and safe maneuvering. The training aims to make agricultural supervisors and owners into skilled teachers themselves on the subject of tractor safety. Close to 300 participants attended the training.
The seminar’s popularity proved successful and prompted several important farming partners to recognize State Fund’s safety efforts. Members from the California Cotton Ginners and Growers Associations, California Grape & Tree Fruit League, California Citrus Mutual, Nisei Farmers League, FarWest Equipment Dealers Association, and others presented State Fund with a plaque recognizing their “outstanding effort in providing safety training to agricultural employers throughout California in 2009.” Congratulations to all involved.
