Christine Baker, director of the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), replaced John Duncan early in 2011 as a non-voting ex-officio member of the State Fund Board of Directors.
Prior to her DIR appointment in March 2011, Baker served as the executive officer of the Commission on Health Safety and Workers’ Compensation (CHSWC) from its inception in 1994.
She also served in several management capacities in the DIR since 1984, including Chief of the Division of Labor Statistics and Research and Deputy Director for the Division of Workers' Compensation.
Under her leadership, CHSWC grew into its role of overseeing the health, safety and workers' compensation systems in California and recommending administrative and legislative changes for improvement.
Baker earned a Masters Degree and achieved Ph.D. candidacy at the School of Education, University of California, Berkeley.
